Why this essay belongs in WORD DRIFT
Some words are not only older than their current use. They are still populated. A named figure, spirit, or sacred persona remains inside the modern label, shaping what panic, mentor, narcissist, echo, charisma, genius, demon, or avatar can mean. The myth is no longer fully present as belief, but it still survives as category, atmosphere, accusation, prestige, or form of presence. That survival is the residue the archive is trying to keep audible.
This is a word-history essay, not a partisan decoding trick. The point is to notice how historical layers of meaning affect modern judgment without pretending every contested term hides a secret plot.
